Golden Milk

Golden Milk I love it! The most important component of Golden Milk is turmeric. I use this golden yellow root raw, in juices and in meals. But I also use it richly in powder form. Turmeric has its origins in Asia and is often used in Ayurvedic cuisine. Precisely because of its health benefits, and this one seems endless.

Some well-known advantages are:

?Pain relieving
?Powerful antioxidant
?Mood enhancer
?Better digestion
?Lowers the cholesterol
?Brain enhancer
?Endocrine regulator
?Beneficial effect on blood pressure

The main component of Turmeric is Curcumin. This provides the health benefits. There is also a disadvantage and that is that Curcumin is metabolized very quickly and is therefore not properly absorbed by the body. But fortunately we can solve this by adding black pepper to the dish in which turmeric is processed.

Traditionally, turmeric is used in stews, curries and stir-fry dishes. This appears to be good for the absorption of curcumin. The spices, fats and black pepper improve the absorption capacity and bioavailability. Especially the Bio-peperine, the compound responsible for the heat of black pepper, helps with this, because it slows down the metabolism of turmeric. The Curcumin is now a thousand times better absorbed!

This means that if we want to use Turmeric raw or in powder form, black pepper and fat must always be used.

Golden Milk

One of my favorite ways to use Turmeric is to make Golden Milk. This is a delicious hot drink that I like to drink in the evening. It helps me to sleep well and supports the liver as it is especially busy at night.

To make the Golden Milk I make a paste from organic Turmeric powder that can be kept for 2 months in the fridge. But most of the time it will be finished much sooner! Because apart from the milk, I also use it in other dishes. It can be used in savoury and sweet dishes, stews, wok dishes and smoothies. The combination with other herbs gives you even more advantage of your Golden Paste.

Recipe

1 cup organic turmeric
2 cups of water filtered
¼ tsp black pepper
1-2 tsp cinnamon powder
1-2 tsp cardamom powder
1 tsp ginger powder
½ tsp star anise powder
½ tsp nutmeg powder
Pinch of mineral salt
3 tbsp coconut oil of good quality
1 saucepan

Preparation

Put all the herbs and water in a saucepan and let it thicken to a thick paste while stirring.

Make sure you keep stirring and that it bubbles gently. When the pasta has reached the right thickness, it can be removed from the heat and you can stir in the coconut oil.

Then you can store the pasta in a lockable jar. When it has cooled down, you can put it in the fridge.

The pasta is ready, now you can make Golden Milk out of it!

Ingredients:
1-2 tsp golden pasta
200 ml nut milk or coconut milk
few drops of sesame oil
½ tsp Manuka honey

Preparation:

Put the pasta and the milk in a pan and heat the whole while you keep stirring. When it’s hot and it’s not boiling yet, take it off the heat. Pour the golden milk into a cup and if you like you can add a few drops of sesame oil and a very small amount of honey.

And now…. Enjoy! ??

If you don’t feel like making your own turmeric paste, you can also choose a ready-made product in powder form. Put 1 teaspoon of this in a pan and add nutmilk and don’t forget to add some coconut oil. A small teaspoon is enough. Keep stirring until it’s hot. And when it’s ready, you can add a few drops of sesame oil and 1/4 spoonful of manuka honey for the taste. If you find this too much to do and you prefer to buy it ready, then the best thing to do is to choose the Golden Milk from Super foodies. In addition to turmeric, it contains many other herbs.

This was my recipe for the Golden milk and why turmeric is so healthy for you. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I always do. Turmeric is a spice that you can add as much as possible to your meals as far as I’m concerned.

Do you have a tasty variant. please let me know by posting a comment.

And last but not least, may I be so bold as to ask you to share this blog recipe with others?

With love, Pammela
